UPDATE- AI POSTER

Morning,

It has come to local officers attention that an AI poster is being circulated on social media mainly on Spotted sites for Wigston and South Wigston. The contents of this post have spread some misinformation and I would like to try and clear some of this up. 

We are aware of reported burglaries in the area mentioned and are working to be in the right areas at the right times to prevent these, this seems to be having a positive effect as burglaries for the same area have actually reduced from previous years but are aware this is no consolation to those who have been recent victims of these.

There is funding in place for some crime prevention items but these will be distributed to victims of crime who meet certain criteria where it is felt the items will have the most effect.

We do positively support members of the public contacting Police with any report of burglary, suspicious activity or incidents of concern. However, we are not aware of the online group and therefore do not have a presence within it. I would, as before, encourage people to come to Police with their concerns rathers than social media as we are finding a lot of information is being falsely circulated which can actually increase community concerns rather than reduce them.

I would also invite any admin of the Spotted Wigston or Spotted in Wigston sites to contact myself so that we can discuss how to manage the validity of future posts.
